Brian Oxborough

Brian slipped away peacefully on 14th September 2021.

A Thanksgiving Service for his life was held in Busbridge Church on Monday 11th October 2021 at 2.30 pm.

Brian was a life-long Godalming resident, starting at Godalming Grammar School in 1946. He left to train as a Chartered Surveyor with Heath and Salter Estate Agents in Guildford where, with his colleague, Ron Pollard also an OG, he became a partner in the 1960s. He married Pat (Beverton 1952 – 57) in 1970 and had a son Tim – now also a Surveyor. Being always interested in transport, Brian bought and preserved various old vehicles and drove senior local residents for day trips and also holidays, even to Austria and Holland. Steam engines being another interest, coach trips often included visits to preserved steam railways around the country – once ‘bumping into’ Hammy Sparks in Wales!

Brian and Pat continued to live in Busbridge and attended several OGA reunions, where, in 2016, Brian was delighted to meet up with Allan (Joe) Stowe, Vernon Young and David Ash from his school year. After a bad stroke in 2017, Brian needed a wheelchair to get about and although he fought hard and improved a great deal, his activities were considerably curtailed in his last few years. He died in September 2021.
