Brenda Fountain née Avery

Brenda was born in September 1932, the eldest of three children. She lived in Shalford and attended school there before going to Godalming Grammar School in 1944. and leaving in 1950. Here she made several lifelong friends.  

Her first job was with Barclays Bank but she was later to achieve her ambition and became a teacher. She met her future  husband Ivor Fountain at the local youth club and they married in May 1955 and had two daughters Alison and Julia Ivor and Brenda both retired in 1982 and enjoyed several years together. Brenda was a founder member of the local U3A and was later made Honorary President. She was very involved with the local twinning Association and also did voluntary work in her parish, supporting lonely people and working with those with terminal illness. 

Ivor died in 2011 and Brenda died on Mothering Sunday the 26th March 2017 – , a sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a friend to many. Her funeral took place on Wednesday 12th April at  St Katherine’s church Exbury a place which Brenda felt was her spiritual home.
