Peter Brummell

Peter was born in Godalming in 1930 and apart from doing National Service he lived there or in Farncombe all his life.

He attended the Grammar School between 1942 and 1949 where he met Dorothy Manfield and they were married in 1955 and had 2 daughters.

After National Service which included two and a half years in the Suez Canal region Peter worked at various clerical jobs before training as a teacher. He worked in the Primary Sector at two Godalming schools, Moss Lane and Godalming Middle School.

From early days he excelled at sports, was a keen runner, played football and cricket for the Grammar School and continued this interest all his life. He taught games and was responsible for organising many matches and sports days at the schools where he taught. He also had a lifelong interest in the cinema and its history and was something of an authority on the subject

He retired in the early nineties and enjoyed reasonable health for several years, but latterly his health had deteriorated and he passed away peacefully in the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice on the 12th of September with Dorothy at his bedside.

Peter regularly attended OGA Reunions and will be sadly missed by many.

The funeral will be at Guildford Crematorium on Thursday 1st October at 3.00pm. Family flowers only but donations if desired to The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice c/o J Gorringe and Son, 55 Hare Lane Farncombe GU7 3EF
