Mr Watkins was a Sports teacher at Godalming Grammar School, and later at Godalming College. He was very popular with the pupils. During  his war service in the RAF during the Second World War he flew anti-submarine patrols out of Blackpool over the Atlantic – he said,  “never saw a thing, not one sub, not even one of ours”.
